Baby Quilt Done! from The Cozy Quilter

A few months ago, I dug into my flannel scraps and made a flannel vortex baby quilt top in an effort to tame the flannel scrap bin.  I ended up with a quilt top and a still full to overflowing flannel scrap bin.  Sigh...  This week, I finished off the quilting using this nifty attachment to keep my curved lines equidistant from each other as I sewed.  It worked really well!  I found some red Kona to use for the binding and now this quilt is in my baby quilt storage area, ready to give away when a baby comes ...

A Busy Week from The Cozy Quilter

Ta Da!  My Put a Ring On It is done!  I took this class during QuiltCon Together in February 2021 with Latifah Saffir, using her clammy rulers.  I had the top done reasonable quickly but could not decide how I wanted to quilt it.  This quilt kept telling me to hand quilt it, which I ignored until this Spring.  By then, it was screaming to be hand quilted so I got to work.  I used 28 wt Aurifil thread in green for the big stitch quilting.  I'm really happy with this project! I will be hanging it on the ...

Cozy Flannel Scraps from The Cozy Quilter

I keep all of my flannel scraps in a large tote bag and when the bag starts to overflow, I make a scrappy flannel baby quilt to tame them.  Last week, I showed the crumb blocks I made at a sewing day with my guild and this week, I put those scrappy blocks together to make a baby quilt top. I have enough of that darker blue left to make the binding too.  When I give one of these quilts away, I always write a note to go with it with washing and drying instructions as well as suggestions to ...

Sunflowers Cross Stitch (Finally!) Done. from The Cozy Quilter

I spent a few evenings this past week working on my Sunflowers cross stitch.  Finn likes to lie beside me on the couch while I am stitching.  When I got up to get a glass of water, he moved over to my spot... very helpful!

On Thursday evening, I added the last few stitches and gave it a good press.  TaDa!   I love how all of the bees and sunflowers look on the blue background.  I will take this in to be framed sometime in May.  The stitched part is about 11.5" by 11.5".

Last Summer, my husband ...

Scrappy Galore Finish from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I finished this scrappy quilt a few weeks ago and I think I forgot to share it!

Sorry, I had to take some indoor photos because our weather has been wet and cold.

This quilt started when I was cleaning out a drawer of bagged scraps.  I noticed that a couple of the bags had similar colored scraps and that is all it takes to get me started on a quilt.

First, I went through and paired up a bunch of triangles and turned them into improv HSTs.  These were then sewn together with various rectangles, squares and strips.

I ...

Oh Scrap! : Definition of a New Project from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I felt like I could finally clean up some in my sewing room having finished my placemat project. There were little piles of scraps and fabric all over the place.

I found a stack of fabric that I wanted to bag up for another day.  I pulled out "the drawer I never talk about" to stuff it in there and was drawn to a few other bags that had some interesting colors.

I refrained and stuffed it back in the drawer and proceeded to sit and sew.  One thing I can say about the placemat project is that it has ...

From Miamas with Love from Sew Preeti Quilts

I have a new finish, a giveaway and an announcement. But first I must tell you about this book - "My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell you She is Sorry" by Frederik Backman.

My favorite!!!

Full of heart, hope and more...

Elsa, who is seven, (almost eight) had a bad day at school.  Three older girls tore her Gryffindor scarf and threw it in the toilet. The very same day, Elsa's Granny breaks into a zoo and throws turds at the police when approached.  The following conversation happens.

“I didn’t want you to remember this day because of the ...

Almost Everything but the Kitchen Sink from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

While digging through some bags of scraps, I came across a bag of purple and turquoise leftovers.  I think a friend had started a vortex quilt but decided it wasn't a process she enjoyed.

So I adopted the project years ago.

I was drawn to the colors so I decided to open the bag and see what I could put together.  At the same time, I had my suitcase of orphan blocks out so I dug through there for anything that was in the same colorway.  It wasn't long before I had big pieces of the quilt finished ...

Oh Scrap! : Bit by Bit from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

As I was digging through all the bags and tubs of partially finished projects to see if there were any items I wanted to adopt out in the Quilty Orphan Adoption event, I came across a bag of a partially started scrap vortex project I adopted from a friend.

I had stuffed it in a bag and have been adding to it as I came across sewed pieces in the correct color combinations.  I decided to raid my orphan block stash to see what else I could contribute...

The colors are mostly purples and turquoise.  I added all sorts of ...

Eggs and Bacon from Sew Preeti Quilts

Happy to be Scrappy

Me: Good morning
Paul (groan)
Me: Would you like some breakfast?
Paul: Do we have bacon?
Me: I don't think so.
Paul (Bigger Groan + A Whine)
Me: I can make you an egg sandwich.
Paul: Without bacon??? Why did you wake me up anyway?

How to put these together?

The smaller block needs help

Black floral + orange/yellow stripe is better than just the stripe

Matched size = Success

And so it grows!!!

Eggs without bacon is an insult...at least in Paul's opinion.
So when this cute pig ended up next to the eggs ...

To Australia, with love from Sew Preeti Quilts

A mediocre songstress was surprised when someone in the crowd yelled ENCORE following her ho-hum performance.

Twin Tree Block (falling short)

As she performed a second time, the same person yelled out - "and again, till you get it right"

Twin Tree Block (compensating)

That song is the twin tree block and that songstress is me!
By the time I got it right there were over 25 blocks. I figured I should make a few more.  I could definitely use the practice.

Pinned

In process

Trunks

And forty blocks later, we have two lovely flimsies.  I hope they will only see ...

Rough & Tumble from Sew Preeti Quilts

In summer I was working on a scrap vortex quilt.

Scrappy Goodness

Green chair fabric came from Mell

Wonkiness Galore

Finished Flimsy

Pieced Backing

Turquoise Binding

Here is the finished quilt. I named it - "Rough & Tumble"
Bright & Happy

Does it have a story?
Hmmm... it has poem :-)

I dived into my pile of scraps - old and new
long strips, odd shapes and pieces askew
There were some cute scraps from Mell
I chased after them as they tried to escape and fell
Some fabrics scream and others just mumble
But they all fit happily in this Rough & Tumble

Art Imitates ...
